Women are no strangers to combat. Good Men Wanted by Kevin Armento is based on hundreds of true stories of the women soldiers who disguised themselves as men to fight in the American Civil War. Good Men Wanted is made an ensemble cast of both women and men who bring to life both the historical and anonymous figures of the time period. Less a tale of North vs South and more a story of gender divided in a country struggling to save the Union. Good Men Wanted helps us understand What made these women leave behind their lives and identities to go to war. Good Men Wanted is not just an historical piece between the war of the states. The show mixes in many modern elements to weave a story that is as moving and relevant today as it was in the 1860s.
Good Men Wanted is a co-production with Cyrano's and TossPot Productions. This production highlights the exciting and progressive local talent here in Anchorage. The show is directed by Carrie Yanagawa and stars Jill Sowerwine, Shelly Wozniak, Rachel Cheathon, Erin Campbell, Taylor Campbell, Todd Glidewell, Frank Delaney and William Jackson.
Kevin Armento is an emerging playwright from New York City with strong ties to Alaska, as a frequent attendee at the Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, AK. Good Men Wanted recently received a workshop production at Arena Stage in Washington, DC.
The show opens Feb. 26th and runs through March 20. Showtimes are 7pm Thurs-Saturday and 3pm on Sundays. Tickets available at http://www.centertix.net/.
